After watching last night's games, I started to wonder if we might be seeing a trend in NHL scoring.
While Sam Gagner was lighting up the night with 8 points in Edmonton, the Wild and Avalanche put up a pure snooze fest in Denver.
With another 1-0 game, its starting to look a little similar to the pre- lockout days. Scoring itself is not down but 1-0 games are on a significant upswing.
Take a look at games thru February 1st compared to the past 6 seasons after the lockout.
ONE AND DONE
1-0 & 2-1 Games by Season Through February 1 of Given Season, Since 2005-06
Season Total Games 1-0 Games 2-1 Games
2011-12 760 27 87
2010-11 762 17 84
2009-10 826 16 89
2008-09 744 20 70
2007-08 783 20 79
2006-07 780 14 66
2005-06 783 11 61
So my message to all you scoring fanatics is PVR the Oilers game from last night, and enjoy the 12 goals, as soccer totals appear to be on the rise.
